STXfilms has snagged distribution rights to the Amy Schumer-led comedy “I Feel Pretty,” Variety reports. The project marks the directorial debut of “How to Be Single” and “He’s Just Not That Into You” screenwriters Abby Kohn and Marc Silverstein. The pair also penned the script.
Schumer will portray an “ordinary woman woman who struggles with feelings of insecurity and inadequacy on a daily basis” but wakes up from a fall with a completely different view of herself, Variety summarizes. She suddenly believes she’s “the most beautiful and capable woman on the planet. With this newfound confidence she is empowered to live her life fearlessly and flawlessly.”
STXFilms will distribute the comedy in the U.S. The pic’s producers include Schumer, Wonderland Sound and Vision’s Mary Viola, and Voltage Pictures’ Alissa Phillips.
“Amy is a spectacularly talented comedienne and actress and this story could not be more perfectly suited to her incisive observational skills and humor,” said STXfilms Chairman Adam Fogelson. “We are excited to be working with her and we love adding ‘I Feel Pretty’ to STX’s growing list of female-driven comedies. Abby and Marc are among my favorite comedy screenwriters working today and they have a fantastic vision as directors for this film.”
STX’s previous women-centric comedies include box office megahit “Bad Moms” and critically acclaimed “The Edge of Seventeen,” the latter of which was written and directed by Kelly Fremon Craig. The company has an untitled romantic comedy in the works toplined by Anne Hathaway and written by Kohn and Silverstein.
Schumer can currently be seen on the big screen in “Snatched” alongside Goldie Hawn. The comedy centers on a mother and daughter whose vacation goes horribly awry. The “Inside Amy Schumer” co-creator and star’s upcoming projects include Rebecca Miller’s comedic drama “She Came to Me” and “Thank You for Your Service,” a drama about U.S. soldiers dealing with PTSD. She received a Golden Globe nod last year for “Trainwreck,” her first major role in a film.
