MACRO, the “award-winning media brand driven by people of color,” has partnered with Beats to launch a new pitch competition for students and recent alumni of historically Black institutions hoping to get their passion film projects in front of Hollywood bosses.
According to Deadline, students and alumni of institutions including Morehouse College, Spellman College, Atlanta University, or Morris Brown College can submit their applications to take part in MACRO’s third annual HBCU Entertainment Summit in Atlanta, Georgia. Three finalist teams will be chosen to present to a panel of judges in October and receive constructive feedback. Per the competition’s website, “the winning team will then have the opportunity to attend the Beats Black Creators Summit as well as the MACRO Lodge at the Sundance Film Festival 2022.”
Said Stacey Walker King, Chief Brand Officer at MACRO: “I’m so excited to be partnering with Beats on this incredible initiative. Discovering and empowering Black and brown creatives is at the core of the mission of MACRO and I know this effort is just one more step in how we work to increase access and opportunity for the next generation of innovators.”
Since 2015, MACRO has brought to fruition such projects as Dee Rees’ “Mudbound,” Viola Davis-starrer “Fences,” and last year’s “Judas and the Black Messiah.”
The deadline for submitting applications to the pitch competition is September 7, 2021. Visit the Beats x Macro Pitch Competition website for more information and to get started with your application.
