Exactly zero women are up for Best Director at the upcoming Oscars, but Women In Film, actress Kate Bosworth, and Chloe Wine Collection are intent on recognizing and rewarding female filmmakers this awards season. A press release announced that they’re teaming up to launch the She Directed Campaign, which kicks off February 22 at the Women In Film Oscar Nominees Party. The campaign involves a contest designed to offer more opportunities to female voices in film. Submissions are now open.
Female filmmakers are asked to submit an original short film or an excerpt of a feature film that is women-centric. One grand prize winner will be awarded a mentorship and cash prize, and four runners up will receive professional mentorship.
“There are so many elements coming together in the She Directed campaign that I absolutely love — good cinema, great wine, and wonderful women,” said Bosworth. “I’m thrilled to team up with Chloe Wine Collection and Women In Film to advocate for the careers of female visionaries.”
Added Kirsten Schaffer, Executive Director of Women In Film, Los Angeles, “Women In Film is committed to deepening the pipeline of talent in the entertainment industry. Programs like the She Directed contest put a much-needed spotlight on emerging female filmmakers.”
Submissions close July 7. Beginning July 8, entries will be available to view online. The public will vote to select 10 semi-finalists, and an additional 10 semi-finalists will be chosen by a jury panel comprised of industry professionals including Bosworth. The jury will select the grand prize-winning film and four runners up.
