A new opportunity has arisen “for film professionals and film enthusiasts who have already rewatched all the favorite series and movies, read all the books on the shelf, and played online games over and over for days.” The Corona Short Film Festival, “the First (and hopefully last) International Pandemic Short Film Festival,” is now accepting submissions.
Those interested in the online fest should submit a film of five minutes or less via FilmFreeway. “The challenge is to push your creativity and skills, while being restricted by the current situation and make some film magic,” the fest stipulates. The short can be of any genre or cover any topic.
Participants will compete for two prizes: the €1,500 (about $1,635 USD) Grand Jury Prize and the €500 (about $545 USD) Audience Award. Both winners will be acquired for international sales and distribution by festival partner interfilm Berlin.
“A digital event like this seemed to be a great medium for new creative avenues in a situation when filmmaking is rather difficult,” interfilm’s Patrick Thülig told Cineuropa. “At the same time, the most exciting works are often created in exactly these kinds of situations.”
The fest jury includes filmmakers Marta Popivoda (“Yugoslavia: How Ideology Moved Our Collective Body”) and Claire Burger (“C’est ça l’amour”), actresses Sara Lazzaro (“La guerra è finita”) and Nesrin Cavadzade (“Our Story”), and writer and curator Dr. Catherine Colas.
The Corona Short Film Fest is accepting submissions until April 25. Head over to its website for more information.
