Are you a female-identifying screenwriter? Then we have some good news for you: Submissions for the 2018 Athena IRIS Screenwriting Lab are now open. The Lab, an intensive focused on script development, will be held February 22 and 23, 2018 during the Athena Film Festival.
Eligible scripts must be from women writers who have not yet had a feature-length narrative screenplay produced. The Lab will only consider feature-length fictional screenplays — of no more than 120 pages — that focus on at least one strong female character in a leadership role. Scripts written by more than one person will be accepted, but all of the writers must identify as women.
Briana Belser (“Victory Drive”), Oonagh Kearney (“Proserpina”), Erin Sanger (“Girl Show”), and Rashmi Singh (“The Divide”) were selected for the 2017 Athena IRIS Lab.
The Athena Film Festival will run February 22–25, 2018 at Barnard College in New York City. The annual celebration of courageous and audacious women in real life and the fictional world was co-founded by Women and Hollywood’s Founder and Publisher, Melissa Silverstein. Silverstein also serves as the fest’s artistic director.
The deadline to submit to the Athena IRIS Lab is October 30, 2017. You can submit your script and find additional information at the Lab’s event page.
