Amy Ziering is the producer of ‘The Invisible War’ directed by Kirby Dick and winner of the Sundance 2012 Documentary Audience Award. I spoke to Amy about feminist filmmaking, how she and Kirby helped their subjects open up about their difficult stories, and the rewards of not taking no for an answer from philosopher Jacques Derrida.
“The Invisible War” exposes a rape epidemic in the armed forces, investigating the institutions that perpetuate it as well as its profound personal and social consequences. Amy’s first collaboration with Kirby Dick was “Derrida,” a 2002 profile of French philosopher Jacques Derrida which she and Kirby co-directed.
