Susan Johnson set millions of viewers’ hearts aflutter with Netflix’s “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before,” and now she’ll set their imaginations ablaze. The director of the smash hit rom-com is set to follow up the 2018 Lana Condor-starrer with a fantasy for Disney+. The Hollywood Reporter confirmed the news.
Currently untitled, the feature will be penned by Black List scribe Cat Vasko. Plot details for the fairy tale are being kept under wraps.
Olivia Cooke (“Ready Player One”) and LaKeith Stanfield (“Sorry to Bother You”) are in early talks to star.
Johnson made her feature directorial debut with 2016’s “Carrie Pilby,” a coming-of-age story about an intellectually gifted young woman who struggles to make sense of the world outside of the classroom. Bel Powley starred in the pic.
When we asked Johnson her advice for female filmmakers, she urged, “Wear blinders. Don’t be myopic. Have a thick skin but don’t lose your sensitivity along the way. And remember, always, that film is a business: be smart and worth the investment.”
Other Disney+ projects on our radar include “Diary of a Female President,” an animated series about a 12-year-old Cuban-American girl’s journey towards becoming the future president of the United States, and “Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” a Marvel series helmed by Emmy-nominated “Handmaid’s Tale” director Kari Skogland.
