SyFy Greenlights New Series About Female Van Helsing

SyFy has given a 13-episode series order to “Van Helsing,” a female take on the vampire hunter.

The cable network promises a “bold and complex heroine” in Vanessa Helsing, the daughter of the famed vigilante Van Helsing.

Vanessa will be resurrected five years after her demise to discover that bloodsuckers now rule the world. Fortunately for her, she holds a mysterious power over them.

“’Van Helsing’ represents a new mythology in sci-fi by challenging traditional vampire rules,” said Chad Oakes, co-chairman of Nomadic Pictures, which will produce the series. “The series is unique in exploring a world completely dominated by vampires, while the human characters have to learn the importance of working together to ensure their survival.”

“Van Helsing” will begin production in January 2016 and debut in the fall.
