Another gender-bending twist on a classic is headed our way. Female-led reboots of “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels” and “Ocean’s Eleven” are in the works, and now comes word that “Empire” star Taraji P. Henson will star in “What Men Want,” a remake of 2000 Mel Gibson-starrer “What Women Want.” Variety reports that Paramount Players is looking to fast track the project.
The original comedy followed a chauvinist ad exec (Gibson) who suddenly gains the ability to read women’s minds after a freak accident. The Nancy Meyers-directed comedy grossed more than $374 million worldwide.
This new version sees Henson playing “a female sports agent who has been constantly boxed out by her male colleagues,” the source details. “When she gains the power to hear men’s thoughts, she is able to shift the paradigm to her advantage as she races to sign the NBA’s next superstar.”
Henson, last seen in in box office hit and Best Picture-nominated “Hidden Figures,” is set to exec produce as well as star. Her upcoming projects include “The Best of Enemies,” a drama about civil rights activist Ann Atwater, and
“Proud Mary,” a thriller centering on a professional hit-woman.
A January 11, 2019 release is being eyed for “What Men Want.”
