Chloé Zhao is following up her intimate portrait of a modern-day nomad with a Marvel blockbuster. The history-making “Nomadland” director’s latest, “Eternals,” is slated to hit theaters November 5. A teaser just dropped for the star-studded pic about immortal beings who live among humans, shaping Earth’s history and civilizations.
“We have helped them progress and seen them accomplish wonders. Throughout the years, we have never interfered — until now,” says Ajak (Salma Hayek) in the spot. The teaser doesn’t reveal who or what compels the superheroes to finally intervene.
“Eternals'” ensemble cast also includes Angelina Jolie and Gemma Chan, both of whom can be seen in the teaser.
Zhao capped off her record-breaking awards season by winning the Oscar for Best Director this year, becoming the second woman to ever receive the honor, and the first woman of color. The “Nomadland” writer, director, and editor’s other credits include “The Rider” and “Songs My Brothers Taught Me.”
Asked what advice she’d give other women directors, Zhao told us, “Follow your gut instinct. It may not always be right, but it’s what makes your work unique.”
