Anna Paquin is channeling Olivia Pope in a teaser trailer for “Flack,” an upcoming Pop drama that sees her managing crisis after crisis. A publicist working in London, Robyn (Anna Paquin) excels at her job but struggles in her personal life.
The one-minute spot shows Robyn dragging a client out of a bathtub, keeping him shielded from the press, and reminding him to smile before he takes the stage at an awards show. She’s the puppeteer ensuring that her celeb clients don’t go viral for the wrong reasons.
“I see this era of television as one in which women’s roles are interesting, flawed, and complicated, where they’re not necessarily perfect,” Paquin told Deadline. “People are not going to mind that Robyn’s not very sympathetic, they’re going to be enthralled with the story, seeing a real human. There was a real fear [before] that people would switch off if girls weren’t nice, but those girls are boring to watch and don’t reflect who most of us are in general. It’s nice that entertainment is catching up with reality,” the Oscar winner emphasized.
Paquin won an Academy Award for “The Piano.” She took home a Golden Globe for her role as Sookie in “True Blood.” The vampire series aired on HBO from 2008-2014. Since then, her credits have included “Alias Grace” and “Bellevue.” She has a major role in the upcoming season of “The Affair.” The Showtime drama will return in 2019.
“Flack” premieres February 21. The six-part series’ supporting cast includes Sophie Okonedo (“Wanderlust”), Lydia Wilson (“Ripper Street”), and Rebecca Benson (“The White Princess”).
