Teaser Watch: Aubrey Plaza Is an Instagram Stalker in “Ingrid Goes West”

“Ingrid Goes West”

If you find yourself rolling your eyes at social media stars, Instagram platitudes, and hashtags being affixed to every other word online, “Ingrid Goes West” may just be the dark comedy for you. A NSFW teaser has been released for the Aubrey Plaza-starrer.

“Following the death of her mother and a series of self-inflicted setbacks, young Ingrid Thorburn (Plaza) escapes a humdrum existence by moving out West to befriend her Instagram obsession and LA socialite Taylor Sloane (Elizabeth Olsen),” the film’s official synopsis details. “After a quick bond is forged between these unlikeliest of friends, the façade begins to crack in both women’s lives — with comically malicious results.”

The clip kicks off with Ingrid making a big entrance at an Insta-perfect wedding reception — the kind of entrance that all of the attendees will remember for the rest of their lives. She shows up (presumably uninvited) with makeup running under her eyes and wearing a hoodie, then proceeds to pepper spray the bride (Meredith Hagner, “Search Party”) while screaming at her.

Plaza currently stars on the FX comic book adaptation “Legion,” which just wrapped up its debut season. “Parks and Recreation,” “The To Do List,” and “Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates” are among her other credits. Olsen’s credits include “Captain America: Civil War,” “Godzilla,” and “Martha Marcy May Marlene.”

“Ingrid Goes West” premiered at Sundance in January, where it won the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award. Directed and co-written by Matt Spicer, it opens in theaters August 4. Check out the teaser to see some of Ingrid’s misadventures, which include a horribly awkward meeting with Taylor’s brother.
