Set to make its world premiere at DOC NYC, “Calendar Girl” pays tribute to the Ruth Finley, a New Yorker who made an indelible mark on the city’s fashion scene. “Fashion is 24/7, 52 weeks-a-year business,” we’re told in a trailer for the doc. Finley was the first one to think of a fashion calendar laying out every fashion event in New York City.
“She coordinated every major fashion show,” a character in the spot explains. Seventy years after founding the Fashion Calendar, Finley retired and sold it to the Council of Fashion Designers of America. “Calendar Girl” “examines this momentous transition, and reflects on the life, work, and legacy of this trailblazer and the industry Ruth helped create,” the film’s synopsis details.
DOC NYC runs from November 11-19. The fest is being held virtually this year due to COVID-19.
