A knight in shining armor comes in the form of a nanny in a new teaser for “Tully.” Charlize Theron stars as Marlo, an overworked mother of three who can’t seem to catch a break. The rare moment she has to herself — when she’s not pumping milk or simultaneously rocking a newborn and doing laundry — is interrupted by the sound of crying. She’s on the clock 24/7 — but it doesn’t seem like her husband (Ron Livingston, “Search Party”) has any sense of just how time-consuming and emotionally draining her responsibilities are. When the family sits down to eat the meal she’s prepared, he makes his displeasure about the frozen pizza he’s about to eat clear.
Thankfully someone seems to realize how overextended Marlo is. Her brother (Mark Duplass, “Togetherness”) hires a night nanny as a gift to her. “I’m here to take care of you,” Tully (Mackenzie Davis, “Halt and Catch Fire”) tells Marlo.
According to the comedy’s official synopsis, Marlo is initially “hesitant to the extravagance at first,” but “comes to form a unique bond with the thoughtful, surprising, and sometimes challenging young nanny.”
“Tully” marks the reunion of “Young Adult” collaborators Theron, director Jason Reitman (“Up in the Air”), and screenwriter Diablo Cody (“Juno”). The film hits theaters April 20.
