Harry Potter alum Emma Watson is stepping into another enchanted world, and now we have a sneak peak into what to expect from her next blockbuster. A trailer has landed for the Watson-fronted live-action version of “Beauty and the Beast.” The hotly anticipated big-budget Disney title won’t reach theaters until March 17, 2017, but if this gorgeous footage is any indication, the stunning film is well worth waiting for.
The teaser sets the scene beautifully. The castle, music, and murmurs of the magical house appliances all bring back powerful memories of the classic 1991 version of the film, the first animated feature to receive an Oscar nomination for Best Picture. We’re also introduced — ever-so-briefly — to Watson as Belle. She examines the iconic, fateful rose that we’ll no doubt be seeing on lots of Disney merchandise in the coming months.
“Beauty and the Beast” is Watson’s most high-profile project since the last installment of the Potter franchise, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2,” was released in 2011. Post-Hogwarts, her credits include “My Week with Marilyn,” “The Perks of Being a Wallflower,” “The Bling Ring,” and “Noah.”
The British actress has also been busy with her work as a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador, including the HeForShe campaign. If you’re looking for reading recommendations, have a look at Watson’s feminist book club.
