“Since the beginning of time, since the first little girl ever existed, there have been dolls,” says Helen Mirren in a new teaser for “Barbie.” In voiceover narration, the Oscar winner introduces us to a game-changing, culture-shifting doll: Barbie. Greta Gerwig’s live-action take on the Mattel toy stars Margot Robbie.
Gerwig received a Best Director Oscar nomination for “Lady Bird,” her solo directorial debut. She also landed nods for writing the coming-of-age story and for writing “Little Women.” She can currently be seen in theaters in “White Noise,” a dark satire based on Don DeLillo’s book of the same name.
A two-time Oscar nominee, Robbie scored nods for “Bombshell” and “I, Tonya.” Her latest film, Hollywood epic “Babylon,” opens December 23.
“Barbie” hits theaters July 21.
