Hailee Steinfeld refuses to be shackled by society’s constraints in a new teaser for “Dickinson.” The Oscar-nominated actress plays Emily Dickinson in the upcoming Apple TV+ series created by Alena Smith (“The Affair,” “The Newsroom”).
“I have one purpose — and that is to become a great writer,” says Emily in the spot. As rebellious as she is ambitious, the poet ruffles more than a few feathers on the road to becoming a literary icon. Facing threats to cut out her “sordid antics” and criticized for not knowing how to behave “like a proper young lady,” Emily lives for wild nights, and the teaser hints at a sexual relationship with her sister-in-law (Ella Hunt).
Steinfeld received an Oscar nod for Western “True Grit.” “Pitch Perfect 3,” “The Edge of Seventeen,” and “Bumblebee” are among her other credits.
Recent depictions of Dickinson include “Wild Nights with Emily” and “A Quiet Passion.” Molly Shannon starred in the former and Cynthia Nixon in the latter.
“Dickinson” arrives this fall. Apple TV+ also recently dropped a trailer for “The Morning Show,” a drama set behind the scenes of an early morning newscast. Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon star.
