Goodbye Dr. Paul Weston, hello Dr. Brooke Taylor. Ten years after its Season 3 finale, HBO therapy drama “In Treatment” is returning for Season 4 with a different protagonist. Emmy winner Uzo Aduba is taking over for Gabriel Byrne as the star of the critically acclaimed drama.
A trailer just dropped for the 24-episode reboot set in LA and sees Dr. Taylor (Aduba) discussing racial identity, depression, and insomnia with her patients — and, as she explains, “hearing a lot of avoidance of some very difficult topics.”
Work has Dr. Taylor feeling overwhelmed, especially in the midst of a global pandemic. “These people are looking to me to tell them what to do about this moment we are in,” she says.
A three-time Emmy winner, Aduba took home her latest award in 2020 for her portrayal of Shirley Chisholm, the first Black woman elected to the United States Congress, in “Mrs. America.” She previously took home two Emmys for her role as Suzanne “Crazy Eyes” Warren in Netflix prison dramedy “Orange Is the New Black.”
“In Treatment” originally ran on HBO from 2008 to 2010. The series returns May 23.
