Natalie Portman travels to space and returns a different person in a new teaser for “Lucy in the Sky.” After seeing the whole universe, the astronaut’s life on Earth begins to feel unbearably small. Space blew Lucy’s (Portman) mind, and now she’s struggling to adapt to being back at home with her family after the lengthy mission.
Lucy finds solace in the company of a fellow astronaut (Jon Hamm) who understands what she’s feeling — how “nothing makes sense” after experiencing “the vast celestial everything.” The two begin an affair.
While Lucy acknowledges that she feels “a little off,” she insists that she’s “fine.” The trailer hints that’s not at all the case. Her mind is unraveling, and so is her life.
Portman won an Oscar for “Black Swan” and received nods for “Jackie” and “Closer.” “Vox Lux” and “Annihilation” are among her most recent credits. She made her feature directorial debut with 2015 Amos Oz adaptation “A Tale of Love and Darkness.”
No word on a release date for “Lucy in the Sky.”
