Teaser Watch: “Not the White House Correspondents’ Dinner” with Sam Bee Toasts the Free Press

“Not the White House Correspondents’ Dinner”

The fascist-in-chief won’t be attending the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, but “Full Frontal’s” Samantha Bee isn’t passing up the chance to honor the peaceful coexistence of the government and journalists. “We’re throwing a party to celebrate the free press,” Bee announces in voiceover during the “Not the White House Correspondents’ Dinner” [“NTWHCD”] teaser. “While we still have one,” she adds.

“Traditionally, the White House Correspondents’ Association toasts the President of the United States,” Bee explains. “But this year a lot of people’s plans changed.” Namely, we have a reality star in office instead of an actual politician. If that wasn’t bad enough, President Trump has barred journalists from the White House and can’t watch “SNL” without raging on Twitter.

If you don’t find Trump’s decision not to attend the official WHite House Correspondents’ Dinner noteworthy, consider this: Even George W. Bush sat through all of Stephen Colbert’s speech at the 2006 Correspondents’ Dinner.

All we can say is, thank goddess for Samantha Bee.

As previously reported, “NTWHCD” will see Bee “host the [alternative] gala affair, welcoming journalists and non-irritating celebrities from around the world. We suspect some members of the press may find themselves unexpectedly free that night, and we want to feed them and give them hugs.”

“The evening is sure to bring plenty of surprises, music, food, and laughter — and if you’re not careful you just might learn something. Specifically, you’ll learn how screwed we’d be without a free press.”

All proceeds from “NTWHCD” will go to the Committee to Protect Journalists.

“Not the White House Correspondents’ Dinner” will air April 29 on TBS at 10PM. Check out the teaser below.
