Rosa Salazar heads to Hollywood looking to make her dreams a reality in “Brand New Cherry Flavor,” a new Netflix limited series with “Mulholland Drive” vibes. Set in the early ’90s, the horror-thriller sees the “Alita Battle: Angel” actress playing Lisa, a filmmaker who moves to LA to make her movie “but tumbles down a hallucinatory rabbit hole of sex, magic, revenge — and kittens,” the project’s synopsis hints. A new teaser for “Brand New Cherry Flavor” focuses on the revenge angle of her story.
“I’ve been waiting for the right moment to say hello,” a mysterious woman (Catherine Keener) tells Lisa. She indicates that she can “hurt someone” on Lisa’s behalf. Lisa has just the person in mind: someone who made her a promise and betrayed her. She and her new friend team up to “punish him.”
Salazar’s credits include “Undone,” “Bird Box,” and “The Kindergarten Teacher.”
A two-time Oscar nominee, Keener landed nods for “Capote” and “Being John Malkovich.”
Written by Lenore Zion (“Billions”) and Nick Antosca (“The Act”), “Brand New Cherry Flavor” lands on Netflix August 13.
