Teaser Watch: Secrets, Betrayal, & Wine Abound in “The Kings of Napa” from Janine Sherman Barrois

"The Kings of Napa"

If you’re dreading the end of “Claws” and/or “Queen Sugar” and looking for even more family and business drama, Janine Sherman Barrois and OWN have got you covered. A teaser has arrived for the upcoming “The Kings of Napa,” which follows the power struggles of a Black family-owned vineyard.

Created by Barrois, “The Kings of Napa” sees the patriarch of House of Kings, “one of the premiere vineyards in the world,” unexpectedly stepping down. Suddenly House of Kings’ legacy is in question, and Reginald King’s (Isiah Whitlock Jr.) adult children are striving and competing for control of the company.

Daughter August (Ebonee Noel) was appointed president of the vineyard due to her “vision,” we learn in the spot, but it seems other members of the family have their sights set on her crown. Betrayal, revenge, and spilled secrets ensue. As August puts it, “We’re a bunch of backstabbing, paranoid liars.”

“The Kings of Napa’s” ensemble cast also includes Karen LeBlanc, Yaani King Mondschein, Ashlee Brian, Devika Parikh, Heather Simms, Samantha Walkes, Rance Nix, and Curtis Hamilton. Oprah Winfrey is among the executive producers.

Barrois is the showrunner and exec producer of “Claws,” the nail salon-set crime dramedy that will begin its final season December 19 on TNT. Also among her writing-producing credits are “Self Made: Inspired by the Life of Madam C.J. Walker,” “Criminal Minds,” and “ER.”

“The Kings of Napa” debuts January 11 on OWN.
