Teaser Watch: St. Vincent and Carrie Brownstein Team Up for “The Nowhere Inn”

"The Nowhere Inn"

“It was supposed to be a music documentary — concert footage, interviews. You know, I wanted people to know who I really am. One of the reasons why I wanted to make a documentary in the first place is because I would finally be in control of the narrative,” says Annie Clark, AKA St. Vincent, in a new teaser for “The Nowhere Inn.” Described as a “metafictional account of two creatives banding together,” the Sundance title sees Clark teaming up with real-life friend and fellow rock star Carrie Brownstein (“Portlandia,” Sleater-Kinny) to make a documentary about her onstage persona, music, and touring life.

“All I can say is, somewhere along the way, things went terribly wrong,” Clark says in the spot. The pic’s synopsis provides more context, hinting that the duo “discover unpredictable forces lurking within subject and filmmaker that threaten to derail the friendship, the project, and the duo’s creative lives.”

A two-time Grammy winner, Clark released her latest album, “Daddy’s Home,” earlier this month.

Brownstein co-created and starred in “Portlandia.” Her other on-screen credits include “Carol” and “Transparent.” Also a director, the Emmy winner’s packed slate includes “Rodeo Queens,” a mockumentary-style series about Rodeo Queen hopefuls that’s in development at Amazon Studios, and a Heart biopic.

Penned by Clark and Brownstein, “The Nowhere Inn” hits theaters and VOD September 17. Dakota Johnson co-stars.
