Teaser Watch: Titus Announces Season 3 of “Kimmy Schmidt”

“Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”: Netflix

Someone really needs to develop a Tituss Burgess-Beyoncé variety show. A teaser for the third season of “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” just dropped and it looks surprisingly familiar.

The clip sees Titus Andromedon (Burgess, “30 Rock”) recreating “Lemonade” to announce the Netflix series’ new season and premiere date. High-heeled gold boots are worn, flowing yellow frocks are donned, and baseball bats are swung. Oh, and the video’s title card tells us to “Join the Formation.”

In short, it is amazing.

Co-created by Tina Fey, “Kimmy Schmidt” is about the titular character (Ellie Kemper, “Bridesmaids”) rebuilding her life after being held captive in a cult for 15 years. The series also stars Burgess as Kimmy’s roommate; Carol Kane (“Gotham”) as Lillian, their landlord; and Jane Krakowski (“30 Rock”) as Jacqueline, the woman Kimmy works for/emotionally supports.

Season 2 of the series saw Kimmy deal with her PTSD by going to a therapist (Fey) and reconciling with her mother (Lisa Kudrow, “Friends”). The finale revealed that Kimmy is married to her captor/cult leader (Jon Hamm, “Mad Men”), presumably setting up the third season’s main storyline.

Fey previously created and starred in “30 Rock.” The multi-hyphenate is developing several other TV projects with her writing partner Robert Carlock: NBC’s “The Sackett Sisters,” Fox’s “Cabot College,” ABC’s “Family Fortune,” and CBS’ “The Kicker.” She is also working on a musical adaptation of “Mean Girls.” Fey has recently acted in “Difficult People,” “Whiskey Tango Foxtrot,” and “Sisters.”

Season 3 of “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” premieres on Netflix May 19.
