The folks at The Black List, which recently launched a paid script service, yesterday revealed the names of the top unproduced scripts according to 290 experts in the film business. Another list, The Hit List, was also released and that list is the top spec scripts released into the spec market between December 1, 2011 and November 30, 2012.
The Black List has become one of the most important places for Hollywood executives to find scripts to make into films. According to their website over 200 Black List scripts have been made into films including Juno, Michael Clayton, The Blind Side, Doubt, Salt, Take This Waltz and shockingly The Hunger Games.
According to our count, The Black List has 11 female written scripts out of 78, and The Hit List has 9 female written scripts out of 77. There are several overlaps on the list.
All the scripts on the Black List have agency and/or managers representing the writers and some even have producers and stars attached. The key to being on the Black List is that the script has yet to get a green light.
