The Bridesmaids Effect: Imogene

The folks from Coming Soon have posted some first photos from Imogene the new comedy starring Kristen Wiig and Annette Bening. Here’s the description from imdb:

A playwright stages a suicide in an attempt to win back her ex, only to wind up in the custody of her gambling-addict mother.

But the description from Coming Soon makes it seem like another bridal comedy with Wiig trying to get her boyfriend to marry her. Here’s their description:

Imogene follows a wannabe New York socialite (Wiig) as she attends a bridal shower and subsequently becomes frustrated that her live-in boyfriend has yet to propose marriage. As a result, Imogene and her friends soon devise a plan in order to manipulate her boyfriend into marrying her. However, she finds that the plan backfires and instead, he announces that he’s leaving her. When desperate times call for desperate measures, Imogene decides to fake her own suicide as a ploy for sympathy. Unfortunately, instead of winning her ex back, Imogene’s eccentric mother Zelda (Bening) kidnaps her and takes her back to her hometown in this hilarious comedy.

We seriously need to get these women away from weddings. Hopefully that’s only the set up and there will be lots of action and laughs that have nothing to do with a wedding.

It is directed by Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini the team behind American Splendor and is written by Michelle Morgan

Any movie with Kristen Wiig and Annette Bening gets a vote in my book.

Film will open in 2012.
