“The Girlfriend Experience” Co-Creator Amy Seimetz Signs Overall Deal with FX

Seimetz: DP/30

Hot off directing two episodes of “Atlanta’s” sophomore season, Amy Seimetz has signed an overall deal with the company behind the acclaimed Donald Glover-starrer. According to Variety, the agreement with FX Productions (FXP) sees Seimetz developing new TV projects exclusively for FXP.

Seimetz is probably best known for co-creating Starz’s “The Girlfriend Experience.” She’s written and directed many episodes of the Golden Globe-nominated sex work drama. In 2012 Seimetz made her feature debut with “Sun Don’t Shine,” a Gotham-nominated thriller about a couple on a mysterious road trip.

Also an actor, Seimetz’s on-screen TV credits include “The Killing,” “Stranger Things,” and her own show, “The Girlfriend Experience.” “Wild Nights with Emily,” “Alien: Covenant,” and “Lovesong” are among her film acting credits.

“Amy is an extremely talented multi-hyphenate artist and we are proud to have her join the family of outstanding writers, producers, and directors working at FX productions,” said Eric Schrier, co-president of original programming for FX. “Her passion for storytelling is evident in all of her work, and we look forward to developing new series that showcase her talent.”

On her reputation as an “indie darling,” Seimetz has said, “It’s very cutesy and can be undermining. But the idea of ‘independent,’ I like that. It’s pretty punk,” she observed. “I like the idea that I came from a scrappy form of filmmaking. I was constantly grabbing a camera and learning to direct cinema, as opposed to someone telling me how to.”
