Good news for fans of “The Good Wife” who weren’t quite ready to say goodbye to the long-running legal drama when the series finale aired earlier this month. CBS has confirmed that a spinoff centered on Diane Lockhart (Christine Baranski) and Lucca Quinn (Cush Jumbo) is moving forward. You’ll be able to catch the series on CBS All Access, the network’s streaming service, next spring.
CinemaBlend reports that the as-yet-untitled drama will “pick up exactly a year after the events in ‘The Good Wife’ finale, which left us with Alicia severing her friendship with Diane — seemingly for good — in a bid to save Peter from jail time. In the finale, Alicia revealed an affair between Diane’s husband and another woman and later in the episode Diane shockingly slapped her.”
It seems as though showrunners Michelle and Robert King will co-create and EP, but a different showrunner has already been confirmed (Phil Alden Robinson, “Field of Dreams”). Other EPs on the project include Liz Glotzer (“Before Midnight”) and Brooke Kennedy (“Fringe”). The Kings aren’t expected to be especially involved with the project, as the tag-team will be busy working on a different show at CBS: they co-created “BrainDead,” a thriller starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead (“10 Cloverfield Lane”) set to premiere June 13.
