“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” will kick off its fourth season tomorrow, February 18, and it’s already been renewed. Production is now underway on the fifth and final season of the Prime Video dramedy, Variety reports.
Created by Amy Sherman-Palladino, “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” follows a ’50s housewife who embarks upon a stand-up comedy career after her husband leaves her. Rachel Brosnahan, Alex Borstein, and Marin Hinkle are among the cast. “It was the first new Amazon Studios series to get a multi-season greenlight,” Variety notes.
The show has won 20 Emmys, including Outstanding Comedy Series, Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series (Brosnahan), and twice for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series (Borstein). In 2018, Sherman won Emmys for both Comedy Writing and Comedy Directing for her work on the show, becoming the first woman to take home both awards. “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” has also nabbed a Peabody, a WGA Award, and three Golden Globes.
“Amy, [executive producer Daniel Palladino], and ‘The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’ have blazed an unparalleled path, elevating the stories we tell about women, challenging the norms in our industry, and forever altering the entertainment landscape with their one-of-a-kind storytelling,” stated Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke. “The dozens of awards cement ‘Maisel’s’ legacy in many ways, but what’s even more enduring and poignant are the characters Amy created and the joyous, brilliant, singular world she and Dan brought to life. This series has meant so much to Prime Video and the effects of its success will be felt long after its final season. I can’t wait for fans and our worldwide Prime Video audience to savor each moment as we embark on the culmination of this groundbreaking and unforgettable series.”
Sherman-Palladino previously created “Gilmore Girls” and co-created “Bunheads.”
