Valeria Golino is stepping behind the camera again. After playing a filmmaker on the second season of “The Morning Show” the Italian multi-hyphenate is set to make her debut as a TV director with “The Art of Joy,” a racy drama set in Sicily. Variety confirmed the news.
Based on the erotic feminist novel by late author Goliarda Sapienza, the series will follow Modesta, “born into an impoverished family in early 1900 and driven by a strong belief that she’s destined for a better life,” per the source.
Golino, who is also among the series’ writers, met Sapienza while she was in the process of working on the book.
Shooting is slated to start this year in Sicily.
“Portrait of a Lady on Fire,” “In Treatment,” and “Rain Man” are among Golino’s on-screen credits. As a director, her films include “Miele” and “Euphoria.” Both screened at Cannes.
