The Oscar Foreign Film Shortlist — Two Female Directors Nominated

Yesterday, the shortlist for the foreign film Oscar was released. There are two female directed films out of nine nominees. That’s 22%.

The two female directors are both European, Susanne Bier for In a Better World (which already has a release date in the US) and Iciar Bollain directed Tambien la Lluvia (Even the Rain). Bier won the Golden Globe this past weekend so she has a bit of momentum going into the final process.

The list of nine will be reduced to five after committee in NY and LA view the films and those five will be released with all the nominations next week.
