The Weinstein Company Acquires Women Centric Tracks

null

The Weinstein Company, as of late, has been nabbing some high profile women centric titles. In May, they picked up the Judi Dench starrer, Philomena, about a woman who looks for the son she was forced to give up for adoption. Out of Venice, The Weinstein Company announced they were setting a Christmas release for the film with it opening wide in January.

Tracks, written by Marion Nelson, is an adaptation of Robyn Davidson’s memoir about her 1977 trek through the Australian desert at 27, after the death of her mother and breakup of her marriage. Mia Wasikowska plays Davidson and Girls’ Adam Driver plays a National Geographic photographer who tracked Davidson’s nearly 2,000 mile journey.

The Weinstein Company has acquired the film, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival and Telluride. The film will screen at the upcoming Toronto Film Festival. Harvey Weinstein commented on the acquisition of Tracks.

The response to this film out of Venice and Telluride was nothing short of astounding, and is well-deserved. We’ve had great experiences in the past
working with Emile Sherman and Iain Canning, and are thrilled to be on board with such talent as John Curran, Mia Wasikowska and Adam Driver.
