TIFF Adds Masters and Mavericks to Lineup

Got the rundown yesterday on the TIFF Masters and Mavericks screenings. It seems that no women qualify to be Masters.

Here’s what Piers Handling the Director and CEO of TIFF said about the filmmakers.

These Masters films represent cinema’s living legacy. We are proud to present new work from directors as renowned as Manoel de Oliveira, Michael Haneke, Bernardo Bertolucci and Abbas Kiarostami. All 14 filmmakers command the respect of audiences, critics and above all their filmmaking peers.

The message is men are masters.

In the Maverick section, American Masters Exeutive Producer Susan Lacy, will introduce a film about David Geffen; Sophie Fiennes will discuss her collaboration with Slavoj Žižek in The Pervert’s Guide to Ideology and Amy Berg will screen West of Memphis a documentary about the West Memphis Three produced by Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh.

Full lineup of all festival here.
