Tig Notaro Animated Stand-Up Special in the Works at HBO

Notaro in "One Mississippi"

Tig Notaro is returning to HBO. The comedian is following up her 2015 Emmy-nominated stand-up special “Boyish Girl Interrupted” at the premium cable network with the first-ever fully animated stand-up special. A press release announced the news.

Set to debut this summer, the hour-long special will reunite Notaro with Ellen DeGeneres, who is exec producing. The talk show host previously produced Notaro’s 2018 Netflix special “Tig Notaro: Happy To Be Here.” That same year Notaro co-directed DeGeneres’ Netflix special “Ellen DeGeneres: Relatable.”

“After having had the pleasure of seeing bits and pieces of my comedy animated over the years by some talented artists, I became drawn to the idea of creating a fully animated hour,” said Notaro. “Stand-up can be a very solitary art form, so combining it with a collaborative years-long creative effort was such a joyful experience. I’m so proud of this special and can’t wait for everyone to be fully vaccinated watching with their Nana.”

DeGeneres added, “I’m so excited for everyone to see Tig’s new special. I told her since it was animated that we should have Dory in it, but she awkwardly changed the subject. But it’s still hilarious.”

Notaro co-created and starred in “One Mississippi,” a semi-autobiographical Amazon comedy about a radio host who returns home to Mississippi while recovering from a double mastectomy and a C. difficile infection. She currently appears in “Star Trek: Discovery.”
