Tig Notaro to Receive Honor at Oscar Wilde Awards

Notaro in "One Mississippi"

The Oscar Wilde Awards is set to pay tribute to Tig Notaro. The Hollywood Reporter confirms that the Mississippi-born stand-up comedian “with Irish roots” will be recognized at the 15th annual edition of the awards, slated to be held February 6 in Santa Monica.

Named in honor of the late Irish poet, playwright, and author, the Oscar Wilde Awards celebrate “the work of those from Ireland — and some who are not — who contribute to film, television, and music,” the source details.

Notaro’s Funny or Die talk show, “Under a Rock with Tig Notaro,” will return for a second season this winter. She’s also set to reprise her role as Commander Jett Reno on CBS All Access’ “Star Trek: Discovery.” Notaro co-created and starred in “One Mississippi,” a semi-autobiographical Amazon series which ran for two seasons.

The comedian’s stand-up specials include HBO’s “Tig Notaro: Boyish Girl Interrupted” and Netflix’s “Happy To Be Here.” Ashley York and Kristina Goolsby’s acclaimed 2015 doc “Tig” chronicled Notaro’s decision to address her stage II breast cancer diagnosis on-stage while performing stand-up and her attempts to have a child with her then-girlfriend, now wife Stephanie Allynne.

Notaro and Allynne are penning the script for “First Ladies,” a Netflix comedy that sees Jennifer Aniston taking over the Oval Office as the first female President of the United States. Notaro plays her wife, the First Lady. Notaro and Allynne are also set to make their feature directorial debut with an untitled comedy about 30-something, lifelong best friends. “Ellen” head writer Lauren Pomerantz penned the script, which is inspired by her life.

The Oscar Wilde Awards’ previous honorees include seven-time Oscar nominee Glenn Close, “Preacher” star Ruth Negga, and “Outlander’s” Caitriona Balfe.
