Time’s Up is supporting The Latinx House in its efforts “to create community, engagement, and further opportunities for Latinx voices in and outside of Hollywood.” The Hollywood Reporter confirms the two orgs are joining forces. The partnership was announced on Saturday at a private event. America Ferrera, Eva Longoria, Gina Rodriguez, and Diane Guerrero were among those who served on the hosting committee.
Founded by Monica Ramirez, Olga Segura, and Alex Martinez Kondracke, The Latinx House is “a gathering place for people who appreciate and support the Latinx community and who celebrate Latinx excellence in film and entertainment.” Under its collaboration with Time’s Up, the initiative is teaming up with Sundance Film Festival for its official kickoff, and will host events at SXSW and the Democratic and Republican National Conventions.
“The Latinx House is going to be set up in places of consequence, so we’ll have dedicated space there where we’ll be doing programming for and by the Latinx community, and it will range between panel discussions, some educational skill-building sessions, gathering and networking opportunities; we also want to build bridges and help educate our allies about who we are and what our priorities are,” Ramirez told THR. The founder of Justice for Migrant Women continued, “We want to ensure that wherever it appears as though there are power plays being made — decisions being made — that are going to impact our community, we have an opportunity to set the House up there.”
“We’re trying to create something different where we’re educating our youth, educating our communities on the importance of representation, importance of voting, importance of unity,” Guerrero said. “Guess what? Time’s the fuck up.”
Earlier this month Time’s Up Legal Defense Fund co-founder Tina Tchen was named President and CEO of Time’s Up. “I am more optimistic than ever that we can create workplaces where everyone has an equal opportunity to reach their full potential and, in this new role, I’m determined to make it happen,” she vowed when she accepted her position. The partnership with The Latinx House — i.e. the particular support for women of color, who tend to be the most marginalized and mistreated in show biz and beyond — suggests Tchen is trying to make good on that promise.
