Tina Fey’s ‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’ Greenlit for Two Seasons at Netflix

30 Rock will no longer be Tina Fey’s TV home.

After writing and starring in SNL and 30 Rock for a combined 15 years at NBC, Fey has jumped ship (at least temporarily) to Netflix. Her next series, the Ellie Kemper-starring Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, has been greenlit for two seasons of 13 episodes each by the streaming studio.

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt will feature Kemper as a woman who starts her life over in New York City after fleeing a doomsday cult. Set to debut in March 2015, it was co-created by Robert Carlock.

“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to debut Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt exclusively on Netflix, which has proven to be such an outstanding place for distinctive, original programming,” commented Fey and Carlock. “We found the inspiration for this series in Ellie Kemper’s shining all-American face, and we know that she and Kimmy Schmidt have found their best possible home at Netflix.”

Netflix’s Vice President of Original Content Cindy Holland added, “The very construct of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt — its offbeat premise, hilarious and rich characters and serialized storytelling — make it a perfect Netflix comedy series.”
