‘Top of the Lake’ Season 2 Moves to Australia; Jane Campion and Elisabeth Moss to Return

One of the best and most feminist mystery series is moving to Australia for its sophomore year.

“Top of the Lake” will follow Detective Robin Griffin (Elisabeth Moss) from her home country of New Zealand, where the first season took place, to Sydney, where she’s settled as an adult. Other than Robin investigating a crime, plot details are scarce at the moment for Season 2.

Co-creator Jane Campion will return to pen the season, as well as helm new episodes alongside another director. (Fingers crossed that it’s another female filmmaker.)

Production will begin this December.

The first season of “Top of the Lake” was nominated for eight Emmys, including Outstanding Miniseries or Movie, an acting nod for Moss, and writing and directing ones for Campion and Gerard Lee. It won a trophy for Best Cinematography.
