An E.R. doctor sets sail to a small island that promises wild, untouched nature and gets more than she bargained for in a trailer for “Styx.” Rieke’s (Susanne Wolff, “The Three Musketeers”) solo trip takes an unexpected turn when she comes across another vessel, and it’s sending out a distress signal.
“Stay away,” the coastguard commands Rieke via radio communication. “Confirm you understand and will obey this instruction.”
But if Rieke stays away many people will lose their lives: they are on an overloaded refugee boat, and it’s sinking.
Described as a “modern day parable of Western indifference in the face of marginalized suffering,” “Styx” made its world premiere at the 2018 Berlinale. The drama hits theaters February 27.
