Inspiring speeches, love triangles, jokes in high-pressure situations — “Station 19” has a lot in common with the series from which it originated, “Grey’s Anatomy.” The Seattle firefighter drama spinoff takes place just three blocks from Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, but a new trailer for the series proves that it has its own stories to tell.
At the center of “Station 19” is Andy Herrera (Jaina Lee Ortiz), a firefighter who faces personal and professional crises when her father (Miguel Sandoval), who serves as her station’s captain, nearly dies while on a call. “I have to step down as captain effective immediately,” he says after the close call.
Andy is devastated, but realizes she’s the one to fill her father’s shoes. “If you have to step down, I want to step up,” she tells her dad. “I know I can lead.”
“Grey’s” EP/co-showrunner Stacy McKee created “Station 19.” She also serves as exec producer alongside Shondaland’s Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers. The show’s ensemble includes “Grey’s” star Jason George, Danielle Savre, Okieriete Onaodowan, and Grey Damon.
“Station 19” premieres March 22 on ABC.
