Trailer Watch: A Female-Led Team of Medical Professionals Save Lives in Syria in “The Cave”

"The Cave": National Geographic

A trailer has dropped for “The Cave,” an upcoming National Geographic documentary that pays tribute to medical professionals working under the most harrowing circumstances imaginable. Led by Dr. Amani,  a hidden underground field hospital treats patients in war-torn Syria.

Dr. Amani is an aspiring pediatrician whose medical studies were interrupted by the war. In addition to managing a hospital under constant threat and dealing with horrifying emergencies, she’s also forced to confront sexism. “Women should stay at home and not work,” she’s told. Dr. Amani retorts, “No one can tell me what to do or where to work!”

“The Cave” will make its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival next month. The doc hits theaters October 18.
