Eighteen-year-old Lily (Odessa Young, “High Life”) is here to tell a story about how her town “lost its mind.” A new trailer has dropped for “Assassination Nation,” and sees Lily and her high school friends in Salem dealing with a major scandal. Their principal got hacked, and there’s bets about how many days he’ll last before he commits suicide. Some are sympathetic. Others aren’t. “There’s two types of people in this world — people that have come to terms with [the fact that] privacy is just dead, then there’s the old people still trying to fight it,” says one student (Bella Thorne, “Famous in Love”).
Everyone has secrets. Among Lily’s group of friends, those secrets include “a million nudes, super gross porn history, and super pervy texts about almost everyone at this school.” But the secrets don’t stay secret thanks to the hacker.
“When 21,000 people’s emails and texts get leaked, people get really weird,” says Lily. Chaos erupts in Salem, and it’s not long before people are being verbally and physically attacked on the streets.
“Assassination Nation” premiered at Sundance in January. The pic hits theaters September 21. Suki Waterhouse (“The White Princess”), Hari Nef (“Transparent”), Abra, Anika Noni Rose (“Power”), and Maude Apatow (“Other People”) co-star.
