A wife and husband must decide whether “fighting with somebody is better than not having anybody” in a trailer for a newly restored version of “A Fish in the Bathtub.” Joan Micklin Silver’s 1999 comedy sees Molly (Anne Meara) and Sam (Jerry Stiller) come to a crossroads. The couple bicker constantly, and when Sam insists on keeping his new pet carp in their bathtub, Molly decides she’s had enough.
Molly moves in with their son (Mark Ruffalo) and tells Sam that “the maid quits.” Convinced she’ll be back, Sam doesn’t call to apologize. His stubborn refusal to say sorry leads to major consequences — the spot includes footage of Molly on a date.
Silver’s other credits include “Hester Street” and “Crossing Delancey.”
The new restoration of “A Fish in the Bathtub” opens November 8 at NY’s Quad Cinema.
