“Since the moment I was born, I [knew] I was not like everybody. Everything about me was different,” says Walter Mercado in a new trailer for “Mucho Mucho Armor.” The Netflix doc sees the gender nonconforming Puerto Rican psychic, who reached over 120 million viewers in his heyday, reflecting on his legacy. The film also explores what happened to Mercado when he mysteriously disappeared from the limelight.
Described as “a superhero” and “very much his own creation,” Mercado rose to stardom in the Latin world, and was celebrated for his horoscopes, messages of love and hope, and affinity for colorful sequined capes.
“Walter’s life’s work was to promote harmony and love. At a time when our world is governed by hatred and forces of division, we need Walter and his message more than ever,” co-director Cristina Costantini told us. She explained that she hopes audiences who watch the film are “filled with Walter’s energy and take away this idea that we’d all be better off if we showed a bit more love and compassion to one another.”
Constantini’s first feature doc, “Science Fair,” won an Emmy and Critics’ Choice Award.
