“Aren’t you guys tired of trying to do the right thing all the time? When was the last time that any of us felt any joy?” asks Mae Martin in a new trailer for “Feel Good.” The recovering addict and stand-up comedian poses the question at a Narcotics Anonymous meeting in her semi-autobiographical Netflix series.
“Feel Good” sees Mae, a Canadian living in London, falling for a woman who has never so much as “been on a date with a girl.” Their attraction is mutual.”If you’re not holding me, I’m just going to float away,” says George (Charlotte Ritchie, “Dead Pixels,” “Call the Midwife”). Despite her enthusiasm for Mae, George struggles to come out to her friends, and is keeping her relationship a secret from them.
Mae is also keeping a secret. Though she initially tries to hide her past from George, her parents spill the beans about her NA meetings. “New me, new life. I have everything under control,” Mae insists.
A two-time Canadian Screen Award winner for her writing on CBC’s “Baroness von Sketch Show,” Martin co-wrote “Feel Good.” Her debut book, “Can Everyone Please Calm Down?: A Guide to 21st Century Sexuality,” hit shelves last year.
“Feel Good” launches on Netflix March 19.
