Cass, a woman who has recently and unexpectedly lost her mother, is told “grief can manifest itself in unexpected ways” in a new trailer for Patricia Rozema’s latest. “M0uthpiece” is an exploration of Cass’ unconventional coping mechanism in the wake of her mother’s death. The nonstop debates happening in her head are manifested with the presence of a double — Cass is played by both Amy Nostbakken and Norah Sadava.
Based on Nostbakken and Sadava’s play of the same name, the drama sees Cass and Cass bickering about what to wear to her mother’s funeral and whether or not she really wants to take a break from relationships.
When we asked Rozema to describe the film in her own words, she said, “Lena Dunham meets Charlie Kaufman. A grown-up ‘Inside Out.’ A fierce millennial woman is radicalized upon the sudden death of her mother.”
Rozema’s previous features include “Into the Forest,” “Mansfield Park.” and “I’ve Heard the Mermaids Sing.” “Anne with an E” and “Mozart in the Jungle” are among her recent TV credits.
“Mouthpiece” made its world premiere at the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival and opens May 31 in New York and June 7 in LA. Nostbakken, Sadava, and Rozema penned the script.
