Trailer Watch: Abbi and Ilana Resist and Persist in “Broad City” Season 4

“Broad City”

Yas queen! The broads are back! A new trailer for “Broad City” is here and its brief 98 seconds is packed. As Jennifer Lopez’s “Get Right” plays, we see glimpses of Shania Twain, RuPaul, Bingo Bronson, gun culture satire, and, duh, plenty of weed. To paraphrase Ilana (Ilana Glazer): Fuck you, Trump. The broads are going back in.

The trailer is vague on plot details, but it appears that politics will be a significant presence in Season 4 of the comedy series created by stars Glazer and Abbi Jacobson. Ilana wears a pink pussy hat as she and Abbi volunteer as abortion clinic escorts. There’s a collage of Planned Parenthood posters, feminist paraphernalia, and Trump caricatures in the background of one scene. And, perhaps in direct defiance of Mike Pence and his army of puritan misogynists, there’s a lot of sex, masturbation, nudity, and even a consciousness raising session (i.e. Ilana spread-eagled in front of a mirror and taking a good long look at her vagina).

“Broad City” returns August 23 on Comedy Central.
