Everyone’s favorite family of divorce attorneys is back — and at a new firm. A trailer for the second season of Abi Morgan’s “The Split” has arrived, and sees the Defoes partnering with other lawyers to form the Noble Hale Defoe office.
Deemed “the best we have” by her colleagues, Hannah Defoe (Nicola Walker) is continuing to kill it professionally. She’s representing one half of a celebrity couple, a wife who is leaving her unfaithful husband. “You come for my family, I’ll come for yours,” the client’s soon-to-be ex-husband tells Hannah. “I’m not scared of you,” she says.
Personally, however, things are a bit shaky for Hannah. She’s cheating on her own husband, who boasts of the “real love” he and Hannah share. “I screwed up,” a tearful Hannah admits in the spot.
“People have affairs. People we love,” Ruth Defoe (Deborah Findlay) says at one point, seemingly trying to comfort a heartbroken client. But she’s actually advising the client to seek revenge. “Screw her for every penny she’s got,” Ruth insists.
“The Split” also stars Fiona Button (“Lip Service”) and Annabel Scholey (“Being Human”). Morgan created the series and executive produces with Jane Featherstone (“Chernobyl”). Paula van der Oest (“Black Butterflies”) directed Season 2.
“The Split” returns May 21 on SundanceTV.
