Trailer Watch: Agyness Deyn Is A Resilient Heroine in Epic Drama ‘Sunset Song’

A new U.S. trailer has been released for Brit auteur Terence Davies’s latest, “Sunset Song,” which puts young heroine Chris (Agyness Deyn, “Clash of the Titans”) front and center.

The film is based on the 1932 novel of the same name by Scottish writer Lewis Grassic Gibbon. It follows the harsh life led by an Aberdeenshire farm girl in the years leading up to WWI.

The trailer begins with Chris looking out across the fields of her home, as voiceover proclaims, “In all the days to come, her heart would beat in this land and she would be content.” This promise is not one easily fulfilled, however, as contentment is hard to come by for our heroine. Controlled at home by an abusive and possessive father, she finds solace in her relationship with her brother, and then with a young farmer who soon becomes her husband. But with the storm clouds of war looming on the horizon, Chris’s community is torn apart, and her hopes for a happier future away from her suffocating home-life hang in the balance.

“Sunset Song” is Deyn’s first leading role since her critically-acclaimed performance in 2014’s “Electricity.”

The film was extremely well reviewed at TIFF 2015, and is set for release May 13.
