Trailer Watch: Aida Rodriguez Has “Fighting Words” in HBO Max Stand-Up Special

"Aida Rodriguez: Fighting Words"

“Too much truth for you tonight?” asks Aida Rodriguez in a new trailer for her first hourlong stand-up special. Directed by Nadia Hallgren (“Becoming”) and Kristian Mercado (“Phoebe Robinson: Sorry, Harriet Tubman”), “Aida Rodriguez: Fighting Words” sees the “Last Comic Standing” alumna tackling timely issues like #BlackLivesMatter and telling her personal story.

Rodriguez discusses returning to her roots in the spot. “I didn’t know I was Dominican until I got older,” the comedian, who is of Puerto Rican/ Dominican descent explains. “Through this journey, I had the opportunity to go to the Dominican Republic and meet my father for the first time.” She recalls her father introducing every woman who walked into the restaurant they were at as her sister. “He was so generous he gave us each our own mothers,” she jokes.

“Aida Rodriguez: Fighting Words” starts streaming on HBO Max November 4.
